It’s that time again where we answer a monthly question asked through Later Levels blog!
Anyway here is the question:
You’ve been tasked with making the Ultimate Video Game, but there’s a catch – you can only piece it together from parts of other releases. You can choose separate titles for visual design, sound design, storytelling, and gameplay. What four games would you use to make the Ultimate Video Game?
From reading that question I was thinking this is going to be hard and it has taken me a week to think of game scenarios and their settings and seeing which one will fit here and there and to make it feel and look good, in the end I thought screw it I’m going with that I’ve chosen and here are the choices!
For me I was stuck between Fallout, Farcry 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn I kept coming back to this over and over and was even playing these games to decide my decision but I came to a conclusion and I chose, – Farcry 4
The scenery and environment of this game always fascinated me and I’ve always been a fan of the Far Cry games (Even though I’ve not played Far Cry 5 yet) but the detail gone into these games makes it a clear winner in my eyes plus I would love to get lost in the environment of these games and just sit down and watch it all day.
For me, this was the easy one cause I love the sound design Bethesda has done with the Fallout franchise so this would be the winner every day for me the sound of the oldies playing while running through the environment of Far Cry would be my ideal game so far.
When I listen to the music from Fallout I always want to sing along or hum the tune and it will be stuck in my head for days I remember having The Wanderer stuck there for months and I guarantee I’ll be singing this after writing this post.
Even so, Bethesda is holding a Charity Event around the time of the Fallout 76 release featuring music from the games as well as Elder Scrolls franchise and all proceeds earned will be given to War Child UK.
Anyway back to my Answers!
So with the storytelling, I had to think a little on this one but there’s no better storytelling for me than the games Quantic Dream make. I love Heavy Rain, Beyond and Detroit the way they tell a story is amazing and always keeps me gripped to finish the game and these are the winners for me.
Another choice of mine would have been Telltale Games the way they tell stories is very creative as well and it’s a shame with the news of the company going under or closing down which means no Season 2 of Game of Thrones.
But Quantic Dream is the winner for Storytelling in my eyes.
This one was a toughy for me I love lots of games and the way they play and to think of one off the top of my head it wasn’t easy but I’m going to go with Dying Light/Dead Island the gameplay to these games were good and I also remember me and a few friends running around killing zombies and just driving and free running and it was a blast to do and play.
My other choice would have been Red Dead Redemption as the way the game handles is pretty good but I did also enjoy the way the game played when I was playing it but Dying Light and Dead Island is a joint winner for this simply cause I think it would fit better with the other choices I made and that a First Person would fit better than 3rd Person.
So from my choices, we have a Zombie infected country Kyrat where the music is nothing but the 30’s 40’s 50’s and 60’s and we have to make choices within the game that will determine the ending of the game.
Now to me, that sounds like my ideal game but what do you Warriors think?
Let me know in the comments below and once again thanks to Ian at Adventure Rules for the question and Later Levels for hosting the awesome QOTM blog.
