For this week’s throwback, I’m staying with the PlayStation 1 and going to the summer of 2000 Infogrames released a game called Hogs of War.
The game is set in the First World War-era where anthropomorphic pigs engage in combat.
Hogs of War is a turn-based game, featuring 3D graphics, and both a single-player career mode and offline multiplayer. And not only that it also features Voice over from the legendary British Comedian Rik Mayall.
Also being one of the earlier games to include cutscenes that were at the time at it’s highest quality featuring a backstory to the pigs in the single-player campaign.
With the campaign, there are 6 different “pig nations” which are named and dressed differently so there weren’t any complains as well as setbacks when the game was released but the countries it parodied are, United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States of America, Russia and Japan.
This game was fun and with the talk over from Rik after every turn made on the game made it funnier and more playable.
It’s a shame that the game got overshadowed by the successor that is Worms but this retro classic is still available to buy on Steam for PC and is also available on the PlayStation Store in North America as a PS One Classic.
Out of Five?
I’m going to give this game 3/5 Stars as it was fun to play, and I also remember me and my sister playing this game for hours when we had it on PS1.
What did you think to Hogs of war? Let me know in the comments below!
