Apex Legends? Is it a battle royale game we needed? Today I’m going to be discussing my view on the game.
So for those who don’t know what Apex Legends is it’s a free-to-play battle royale game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 4, 2019.
The thing I thought was crazy was that EA decided to release this game without any prior announcement or marketing. Which in my eyes was a big risk but EA must have known what they were doing as the game surpassed over 25 million players by the end of its first week, and 50 million within its first month.
Plus it is rumoured that EA have paid a popular streamer to stream their game with his followers and was paid a staggering $1 Million (Source)
So what makes this game different from the usual Battle Royale genre.
Well, Apex differs by incorporating Legends, pre-defined heroes with unique abilities that fall into roles such as Offense, Defense, Support and Recon. Players are grouped into squads of three, each player selecting a unique Legend in turn, and each match features up to 20 teams competing and then it basically goes the same as other games by sending all teams with no equipment and are flown over the game’s map via dropships from a random direction
But what makes this game better?
In my eyes, this game feels more focused on an adult market compared to Fortnite which at the time of its release it wasn’t aimed at kids but now since it’s become so popular there game is now aimed at kids and their customer base is basically kids. Apex also feels like a decent first-person shooter unlike PUBG but once again a battle royale game is the same once you’ve played one you’ve played them all and if it’s not your thing then Apex probably won’t be for you.
But the plus to this game is that it is a nicely made game and feels like a mini Titanfall game and it’s free so you made as well give it a shot as you have nothing to lose.
But what do you think of Apex? Let me know in the comments below!
