Horizon Chase Turbo Review

Hey Warriors!

And today I’m going to be reviewing one of the PS Plus game that was free this month, Horizon Chase Turbo!

So this game was released on Current Gen Consoles in May 2018 by Aquiris Game Studio and is usually £15.99 to buy but for this month on Playstation, it’s free so make sure to grab it while you can.

A 3D game, it touts the fact that it has a unique retro aesthetic inspired by 2D, 16-bit titles and mainly gets it’s influenced from the 1992 SNES game Top Gear and the crazy thing is the game’s soundtrack was composed by Barry Leitch, who was contacted due to his work on Top Gear, which I thought was pretty cool.

The gameplay on this game is pretty good it’s well-balanced a lot of cars and tracks to race around as well as areas, cars and upgrades to unlock a game that will take your time away if you want to unlock everything and get that 100%.

Once again the controls are pretty easy and straight forward, Go, Stop, Turbo and movement but the one thing I like about this is that you can use the directional buttons as well as the thumbstick me personally I prefer the directional buttons over the thumbstick.

Game Modes

Well besides the standard mode of World Tour there is also a Playground mode which features limited timed race tracks for you to try and complete, Tournament where you compete against other drivers in 4 races to win the title. And endurance where you drive your cars with no fuel regeneration and see who finishes the race.

The World Tour mode is nice and easy to navigate and looks very colourful as well as an upbeat soundtrack and the loading screens are for only a few seconds so your not waiting around for the game to load.

There is tons of content: 12 Cups, 48 Cities, 109 tracks, 31 Unlockable Cars and 12 Upgrades. Enough to keep anyone going who loves racing games.

The trophies are straight forward on this game there are some difficult ones that are also hidden within the list but once again enough to keep you going especially if you’re a trophy hunter.

My Verdict

So I’ve played this game for about 2 hours now and I must say I’ve really enjoyed playing it, as it’s a racing game but it’s not like a normal racing game you play it has that retro vibe as your playing it and made me think about my Sega console and playing Outrun all over again!

The game for me is fun, time-consuming, colourful, challenging, and nostalgia at the same time for me this game is worth a download and play even if your not into racing and while it’s free why not! (But you only have till July to download it!)

I’m giving this game a 4/5 Stars!
