What’s up Warriors and today I’m going to be looking at a new band that has come across my travels called Arliston and their version of “Wicked Game”
So before we get into this song who are Arliston?
The Trio was formed in a basement in East London, Arliston is a new project by Jack Ratcliffe, George Hasbury and Jordi Bosch. Jack has worked very closely with engineer and songwriter Chris Blakey (Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds) to create a signature sound made up of analogue synth pads, multi-layered harmonies and guitar blending lush textures, soulful vocals and expansive soundscapes. Reminiscent of Bon Iver and James Blake.
With that said I after listening to this song, I can see the Bon Iver influence on them and their songs which is great as Bon Iver makes great music as well as this Trio.
Now a lot of people will know this song as it has been covered many many times by other artists but the original is from the great Chris Isaak in 1989, but a lot of bands and artists have covered this song ranging from HIM, Stone Sour, London Grammer, James Vincent Mcmorrow, Theory of a Deadman, Parra for Cuva and many more.
So what makes this different?
Well, nothing makes the song different besides there own rendition of the song which is strong and powerful in the vocals and piano in the background of the song. The symbols crashing in the background which fills out the headphones along with the singing and the suttle guitar slipping in and out between these things give this song a nice relaxing chill-out zone but it also feels like a haunting version of the song at the same time.
I like this rendition of the song it made me feel relaxed listening to it and there is a lot going on within the headphones and you can hear every little detail which is nice to see as not many bands or artists do this much detail anymore within their songs.
Out of Five?
This song is powerful, haunting, relaxing all at the same time but also brings that the nostalgia of a great classic which will be relived in this rendition of the song the mellow piano and crashing symbols make this song the different creative edge compared to all the others.
This isn’t my Favourite version of this song but it’s one I can get behind and appreciate and I hope this does well on the radio when it’s released on the 1st of November.
I’m giving this a 3/5 Stars!
Be sure to check this band out and this single that is being released on the 1st November!
Also, a Big Thank You to Lander PR for letting me hear this before it’s release and writing about this new band.
