What’s up Warriors and today I’m going to do a throwback on Soundgarden’s 1991 Album Badmotorfinger.
It’s been too long since I’ve done a throwback and what an album to begin one again, If you don’t know who Soundgarden are they started in 1984 in Seattle Washington and are one of the father bands of making the Grunge genre.
If you haven’t heard of Soundgarden then go do it now!
This album went 3x Platinum (2 In the US and one in Canada) and was ranked at number 2 on 50 greatest Grunge albums by Rolling Stone.
Along with the album release came 3 singles to promote the album which was Rusty Cage, Outshined and Jesus Christ Pose.
When it came to music I was kind of late on the Rock/Metal scene and I discovered this album at around 14/15 and I had to make a copy of the album from a friend, this was back when there was no streaming services believe it or not.
In the end, I brought this album cause every song spoke to you especially with Chris’s voice and the range he could get with his vocals.
After hearing Rusty Cage and Outshined a few times I remember hearing it somewhere else and couldn’t put my finger on it till years to come when I and a few friends were talking and of them said that they were in Road Rash the game.
The light bulb came on in my head and that was it I remember playing that game over and over again and this was when I was about 8 so I was technically listening to Soundgarden at an early age.
Songs To Listen To
If it’s your first time listening to Soundgarden off this album I would recommend:
Rusty Cage – The instruments on this song along with the vocals makes this a must listen to but until now I didn’t know the tuning on the instruments were “pretty nutty” with the bottom E String being dropped turned to B.
Outshined – The slow instruments and powerful crunch they deliver along with Chris’s vocals is a must.
Slaves & Bulldozers – This one is a weird one with the music and at the beginning, it has a build-up before the song kicks in.
Jesus Christ Pose – Has some funky Bass at the beginning of the song and with Drop D Tuning on the guitars giving this a little darker and heavier side to the song with Chris’s loud and strong Vocals this is one of my Fav’s off the album.
Out of Five?
This album is a masterpiece in its own rights as this album and Nirvana’s Nevermind gave us the Grunge genre and made it what it is today, not only that this album has influenced a lot of bands into making what they do today.
And it would have been nice to have new music from these but unfortunately, Chris Cornell isn’t with us anymore but at least he left behind some great music for us to chill and jam along to.
For me, this album is a Solid 4/5 Stars!
