What’s up Warriors and today I’m going to be discussing My top ten PS1 games with a little help from some fellow bloggers as well.
Launched in 1994 Sony released their first-ever console called the Playstation One and were made for 12 years until it was discounted in 2006 and selling 102 Million Units worldwide making it at the time the best selling gaming console with its competitors Sega Saturn selling 9 Million units and the Nintendo 64 selling 32 million units.
10. Tekken 3 (1998)
Tekken is one of the games where you pick it up and button mash till you KO your opponent well it was for me and the number of characters to choose from as well as the story to this game made me want to complete it with every character to see the endings for each one. Plus it was the first one to include my Favourite Character Hwoarang. This one has mentioned in the Dischord convo us bloggers have and Triform Trinty was quite shocked to see this as my number ten.
9. Driver (1999)
I remember borrowing this from a friend and getting stuck in the parking garage for hours trying to do the tutorial so much so I gave up and gave it to him back, but later on, I would play it again where I was able to get past it and actually play the game and it was definitely worth it as at the time the driving mechanics were amazing and getting away from the cops was a challenge which made this game more fun and frustrating at the same time. This one was mentioned to me by Fellow Blogger Glitzy Warrior also known as James who has done a few blogs on this site as well.
8. Tomb Raider (1996)
Can’t beat a little treasure hunting and coming in at number 8 is Tomb Raider, 1996 classic that was released by Eidos Interactive that had you jumping, running, and shooting to gather all the relics you could, not only that this game was many many sequels as well as most probably being an influence for the newer generation of genre being “Uncharted” series which are also amazing in their own way.
7. Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee (1997)
Released in 97 Oddworld was a very Odd game and I remember playing a PS1 Demo with this on (In a way I miss Demo Discs) but this game was ace as I remember just taking over the bodies of the enemies and making them explode but what I remember more about this game is the beautiful cutscenes it provided within the game but also the mechanics of the game for 1997 was pretty advanced.
6. Theme Hospital (1998)
This game I completely forgot about until my Nearest and Dearest and fellow Blogger Emily! told me one of her favourite games on the PS1 which was none other than Theme Hospital, released in 1998 by Bullfrog Entertainment which has now disbanded Theme Hospital gave the gamers a chance to build their own hospital and cure patients or kill them depending what you build and hired I enjoyed playing this game as it was something different at the time and it was pretty fun seeing people with big tounges getting checked out.
5. Hercules (1997)
“You Gotta Use Your Sword!” as soon as I thought of this game that came to mind and in this 1997 release of Hercules game, it was amazing I remember playing this for countless hours and a good friend of mine and a somewhat part-time blogger Tom and I was talking about this the other day and how it brought back that game and all the sayings.
4. Spyro The Dragon (1998)
Purple Dragon collecting Gems and having a dragonfly as a companion? Sign me up! Well this was my Sister’s favourite game at one point and even remember not being able to get to play the PlayStation for her always being on it but this game was fun in every way and you grew a bond with the character and wanted the little thing to succeed in saving the Dragon Kingdom, even so, I got the remastered version on Playstation off Emily for birthday.
3. Crash Bandicoot (1996)
Now this game had to be on my list, heck my blog is named after the little Bandicoot I think people who know me would be shocked that this game isn’t number one but there are two games that have to come before this game but this game I spend hours on when I was a kid and when I got the remaster of this I felt like that little kid again trying to complete the game (Which I never did and still haven’t) but maybe I’ll make it my goal this year.
2. Resident Evil (1996)
This game gave me nightmares not gonna lie playing this at 7 years old I remember seeing my first zombie in that little hallway and didn’t know what to do and panic turning the PlayStation off, now 29 years old me, can’t get enough of these games and the story behind them so much so I’m collecting them all on disc for my shelf and when the remaster of number 3 comes out I’ll have them all on PS4, but this game was great after you got over the scary moments but not only that this game made you think a little as well as you couldn’t just save it and go you had to find the typewriter and have an ink ribbon to save the game. That still sticks in my head to this day.
So before I get to number one there are a few games that are not on my list but should be mentioned as most of these games are classics in their own way.
Resident Evil 2 – So this was mentioned in the Dischord server by Hundstrasse and it should have made this list but number one was where it was at for me when thinking of PS1 games.
Pandemonium – I remember playing this at my next-door neighbour’s house for the time and it was a blast to play and I completely forgot about this until fellow blogger Leekseverywhere mentioned it to me.
Gran Turismo – This game was the best selling game on PS1 selling 10 Million copies worldwide and was an amazing game for me though Gran Turismo 3 was my favourite so this one didn’t make the list.
Final Fantasy VII – This game stole many hours of mine even so I had to lend Disc 3 off someone as mine could never work but I’m looking forward to the remake that’s coming out soon.
1. Metal Gear Solid (1998)
If you didn’t guess this game would be number one from looking at the other 9 games before this then I’m shocked as MGS was a masterpiece and still is to this day even so I did a TBT post on this a while ago. This game had everything. A good story, great cutscenes better than some of the ones we get today, action-packed gaming and most of all the characters within the game they are all weird and wonderful and just goes to show what Hideo Kojima is thinking in his head.
This game created a beautiful series for us to play and the story from each game have been masterpieces in their own way, it’s a shame what happened with Kojima and Konami but I’m sure Kojima has something up his sleeve for the Metal Gear Series if he can get his hands back on it.
But number one on my list is Metal Gear Solid!
Well if you’ve made it this far then I thank you for reading this post it’s taken me a while to get this one finished as I’ve been back and too on it struggling to write it but it’s finally done and I thank you for reading it.
